Kannad Marine has issued a recall of all SAFELINK Manual and Auto GPS EPIRBs due to a possible defect that could result in the beacon not operating in emergency situations.

The Coast Guard said in a safety alert that it strongly recommends that all owners and users of Kannad Safelink EPIRBs identified in the recall notice not use them as a primary Search and Rescue beacon aboard their vessels and should seek replacement devices as soon as possible.

Kannad said in its release that the Safelink EPIRB’S yellow body plastic may prematurely age when subjected to specific environmental conditions which has the potential to impact on its long term effectiveness in the field. Kannad said the Safelink EPIRB models with parts numbers K1202311 or K1202367 are the only Kannad Marine products affected.
